The Musical Work and The Sound Recording

These are the two main areas of music licensing that you should be aware of.

Briefly, the musical work is the sequence of notes in the melody, or in an identifiable part of the accompaniament, and the sound recording is the recording of the work.

If you would like to use a popular piece of music to promote your product or service a cost effective way of doing this could be to use a different recording of the musical work.

If you would like to enquire about whether we have a 'cover' version of a popular song in our library please visit the contact page.

Music licensing is a complex subject and as such we recommend that you always seek legal advice when licensing musical works or sound recordings.
